In business communication - or really anywhere people interact for shared understanding, it feels like AI is starting to become the default mode of communication. It takes a couple of sentences or paragraphs to catch it, but ultimately you realize the writing ends up saying nothing. I’ve never been a great writer so I rarely critiqued other people’s writing in the past. We talk a lot about AI slop in code, but I don’t think enough attention has been paid to AI slop in communication. The quality bar is not “Does this sound professional?” It’s “Did this efficiently convey information to the reader?”

I’ve been talking a lot about process in relation to AI lately and I re-read the agile manifesto and these two principles really stuck with me

• The most efficient and effective method of conveying information to and within a development team is face-to-face conversation.
• Working software is the primary measure of progress.

I’ve been seeing AI pump out so many documents that are basically unreadable, then people feed those docs into another AI model to summarize it. The whole time no one has read the entire original document.

Unsure what this is going to be, but I’ve had a lot of thoughts around AI, process, and generally how software development is changing. People say that writing is thinking so I’m hoping this is my way to do this in public.
